Kawhi Leonard Injury: Updates on Spurs Star’s Calf and Return

San Antonio Spurs star Kawhi Leonard is dealing with a calf injury and will not play Thursday against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Anderson to Start for Leonard Thursday, Feb. 18 Michael C. Wright of ESPN reported Kyle Anderson will start for Leonard as he nurses tightness in his calf.

The Spurs can ill-afford to lose Leonard for significant time, even if they are one of the deepest teams in the league.

The forward was the Defensive Player of the Year last season and won the NBA Finals MVP in 2014 against LeBron James and the Miami Heat. He is one of the premier defenders in the league (he posted an NBA-best 2.3 steals per game in 2014-15) and guards the opponent’s best player virtually every single game.

Leonard can also shoot the three, attack the basket off the dribble, create open looks for his teammates with penetration and score from mid-range when San Antonio has the ball. He is averaging 20.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
