Butler to Seek Short-Term Offer Sheet

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported Butler plans to pursue shorter contracts this summer rather than sign the five-year max deal the Bulls are expected to offer. Chicago can offer Butler a five-year contract worth $90 million.
While that offer is the maximum allowable, Butler and his management are said to be seeking a short-term deal so he could re-enter free agency when the new television deal kicks in.
The NBA and its partners signed a massive extension last fall that does not begin until the 2016-17 season. The increased revenue from that deal has the NBA projecting an $89 million cap in 2016-17 and $108 million cap in 2017-18. For reference, the 2014-15 salary cap was $63.2 million.
That knowledge leaves free agents like Butler and their representatives at a bit of a crossroads. ...
