Ian Mahinmi Injury: Updates on Pacers Center’s Back and Return

Indiana Pacers center Ian Mahinmi is set to miss his team's matchup with the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night while nursing a sore lower back, per Candace Buckner of the Indianapolis Star.

Mahinmi Might Return Saturday vs. Detroit Pistons Thursday, Feb. 4 Mahinmi has had his fair share of injury issues already in 2016. He suffered a sprained ankle in January, which caused him to miss a game. His back has proved to be more troublesome, leaving him unavailable for Indiana's last three games.

In their eight games without Mahinmi in the lineup this season, the Pacers are 3-5. According to NBA.com, Indiana has a 3.7 net rating with the 29-year-old Frenchman on the court, compared to a 2.2 net rating when he's on the bench.

While Mahinmi isn't one of the Pacers' key players, they're a better team when he's healthy and available.

His absence has provided a silver lining, though, as it has allowed Myles Turner to see more time on the court. The 11th overall draft pick has played well in his limited appearances so far. He boasts an 18.3 player efficiency rating, per Basketball-Reference.com.
