On almost every roster in the NBA there are one or two contracts that catch your eye immediately. You see the numbers a certain player is making and you wonder, how is this possible or what were they thinking? In some cases, the contract makes sense. Teams are simply paying top-dollar for the backend of a great player’s career. Shaquille O’Neal is a perfect example. Is he worth the $20 million the Cavaliers are paying him this season? No, but the last few years of an All-Star talent’s third NBA contract come at a fixed cost. It is the way of the league. This list marks the ten worst active contracts in the NBA. Some of the names have earned their high price tags the same way Shaq did. Others, not so much. No one on the list is producing at a level equal to their pay-grade. Only contract numbers for the 2010-11 season and beyond are eligible. Contracts that expire after the current season are excluded, as are those that are dictated by team options. Obviously if a franchise can get out of the deal, it really isn’t that bad right? The ten contracts on this list are expensive, and the only way out of them is through a buyout.Begin Slideshow
