Erick Green Reportedly Released by Nuggets, Kostas Papanikolaou Signed

The Denver Nuggets released guard Erick Green on Thursday and are expected to re-sign forward Kostas Papanikolaou, according to reports from Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post and Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Green, 24, appeared in three games for the Nuggets this season, failing to score a point while registering one rebound and one assist in seven total minutes. With a slew of guards ahead of him on the depth chart, including Emmanuel Mudiay, Gary Harris, Will Barton and Jameer Nelson, Green was unlikely to ever make an impact for the Nuggets.

Papanikolaou, 25, was traded to the Nuggets in the Ty Lawson deal but never played for the team, as he was waived in order for the organization to avoid his $4.8 million salary in 2015-16 from kicking in. He averaged 4.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists in his rookie season with the Houston Rockets and has nice upside. He'll give the Nuggets more options at forward and presents a higher ceiling than that of Green.
