Doug McDermott Injury: Updates on Bulls Forward’s Knee and Return

The Chicago Bulls announced Monday swingman Doug McDermott will be unavailable as a result of a knee injury when the team takes on the Toronto Raptors.

Injury Halts Otherwise Encouraging Campaign Monday, Dec. 28 McDermott experienced some right knee discomfort earlier in the season after undergoing meniscus surgery on the same knee last season, but the soreness proved to be fleeting. 

After playing 8.9 minutes per game as a rookie in former head coach Tom Thibodeau's doghouse, McDermott has watched his role grow under the guidance of Fred Hoiberg. 

Now entrenched as a member of the Bulls' perimeter rotation, McDermott is averaging 8.8 points on 44.9 percent shooting from the field and 42.4 percent shooting from three. 

"I just feel so much more confident," McDermott said in December, per ESPN.com's Nick Friedell. "Last year sometimes I was even like just kind of scared, you know? I didn't really know what I was doing out there. This year I'm just so much more comfortable."
