Point guard Derrick Rose can become a free agent during the offseason, but the New York Knicks aren't rushing to sign him to an extension.

Latest on Rose's Contract Status Tuesday, Nov. 29 According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks have yet to approach Rose about a new deal, as they want to see how his health holds up over the course of an entire season.

If Rose stays off the injured list and enjoys a great year, the Knicks reportedly don't mind paying him more than they otherwise would have had they extended him earlier.

The Knicks can sign Rose at any time, and he is eligible for a veteran extension similar to the one Russell Westbrook signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Such a deal would stretch over three years and net Rose roughly $75 million.

Per Berman, Rose isn't yet concerned with his contract status: "I haven't talked to them about it. It's been more about winning games. We'll see. I'm more concerned with trying to win games, but it's something I'd have to talk about with my family and team."
