Deron Williams Injury: Updates on Mavericks PG’s Calf and Return

Dallas Mavericks point guard Deron Williams is nursing a strained left calf, and it's unclear when he'll be able to return to the floor.

Williams Out vs. Lakers Tuesday, Nov. 8 Earl K. Sneed of the team's official website relayed the update and noted Williams did not make the trip with the Mavericks to Los Angeles. Dallas is scheduled to visit the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday and Golden Sate Warriors on Wednesday before flying east for a showdown with the New York Knicks on Nov. 14.

The 32-year-old has dealt with his share of ailments over the years. He hasn't crossed the 70-game threshold since playing 78 contests for the Brooklyn Nets in 2012-13.

Because Williams can't be trusted to stay healthy for a full season at this stage of his career, he has not averaged more than 32.4 minutes per game in any of the last three seasons.

The Mavericks have provided Williams with an opportunity to extend his career with a solid team. He finished second on the team with 14.1 points and led the squad with 5.8 assists per game last season.
