Sacramento Kings All-Star DeMarcus Cousins is paying for the funeral expenses of a teen football player who was shot and killed Friday.

Sean Cunningham of KXTV ABC10 initially reported Cousins' gesture. Jaulon Clavo was a starting senior cornerback at Grant Union High School, and Cunningham noted Cousins "often" attends Grant games.

ABC10 confirmed the news, indicating Sacramento City Council member Rick Jennings made an announcement during a candlelight vigil for Clavo Saturday evening.

Clavo died at UC Davis Medical Center of a gunshot wound to his neck. He was shot while in a car with four teammates who went to pick up food before a home game, per the Sacramento Bee's Cathy Locke, Joe Davidson and Diana Lambert. According to that report, another player, senior fullback Malik Johnson, was shot in the arm and treated at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center.

Grant was preparing to play Beyer High School in an opening-round playoff game Friday. The game has been postponed until Monday.
