Clippers’ Blake Griffin Enjoying Career-Best Scoring Run

In supplying 22 points in a win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, Los Angeles Clippers big man Blake Griffin surpassed the 20-point barrier for a 17th straight game, good for the longest such streak of his career.

After regressing across most statistical categories in 2012-13, Griffin has bounced back with the best season of his four-year professional career in 2013-14. Through 59 games, he's averaging a career-best 24.3 points per game while shooting a serviceable 53.6 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free-throw line. The latter mark is almost seven percentage points above his career rate and is perhaps the best explanation behind his improved scoring totals.

Due in large part to Griffin's scoring surge, the Clippers have been able to maintain their place near the top of the Western Conference standings throughout the season, despite losing All-Star point guard Chris Paul for 19 games due to injury. With a 39-20 record, the Clippers currently sit fourth in the conference and own a three-game lead over the Golden State Warriors in the Pacific Division.
