Boston Celtics: Doc Rivers Yet to Sign an Extension, Future Still Up in the Air

The Boston Celtics (50-21) have a had a regular season of ups and downs from day one.

Nearly half the roster has been sidelined due to injury and five new players were acquired in trades and free-agency. Not to mention, boiling controversy with former starting center Kendrick Perkins has made for much chaos in Beantown.

However, after this season, one of the major future free agents for the C's might not actually be a player.

Boston Celtics' head coach Doc Rivers will be entering his last year of his contract in the 2011-2012 NBA season. Despite the season-and-a-half left on his contract, Rivers has yet to make a decision on whether he will suit up as the Celtics' head coach next season.

Rivers has made clear that he wants to spend more time with his family and enjoy watching his sons develop in both basketball and in life.

Much of the success the Celtics have had this season—who currently hold the second-seed in the East and owning the number one defense in the league—can be attributed to the man in suit and tie pacing the sidelines.
