Andrea Bargnani Injury: Updates on Knicks Star’s Hamstring and Return

New York Knicks center Andrea Bargnani has missed time in the preseason due to a hamstring injury. Now, his return to the court is uncertain for the season opener against the Chicago Bulls. 

Al Iannazzone of Newsday passed along the latest on Bargnani's injury:



Ahead of the 2013-14 season, Bargnani was acquired from the Toronto Raptors to help the team offensively. The 7'0" center tallied just 13.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest in 42 games for the team.

Knicks' coach Derek Fisher provided an update prior to the team's latest preseason game, via Peter Botte of the New York Daily News:

"He hasn’t been able to practice the last few days so it wouldn’t be smart to jeopardize him by putting him into game action tomorrow,” Fisher said.



Despite a disappointing season in 2013-14, Bargnani still adds value to the team's frontcourt. However, if Bargnani misses more time, veteran Samuel Dalembert will be asked to take a more heightened role after averaging 6.6 points and 6.8 rebounds for the Dallas Mavericks last season.
