Kevin Martin Injury: Updates on Timberwolves Guard’s Wrist and Return

Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Kevin Martin is nursing a bruised right wrist.

Martin Out vs. New York Knicks Wednesday, Dec. 16 Martin will undergo an MRI on his sprained wrist, according to Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune. 

Head coach Sam Mitchell confirmed Martin's status during media availability, according to the team's public relations department. Tayshaun Prince will reportedly take Martin's place in the starting lineup, per 1500 ESPN's Darren Wolfson. 

Martin was the Timberwolves' top scorer last season at 20 points per game, but he was limited to just 39 appearances due to a broken wrist. The injury wasn't new to Martin, who also broke a bone in his left wrist during the 2009 season. 

While Martin has rightfully been overshadowed by the arrivals of franchise cornerstones Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns, the veteran 2-guard has been a fairly steady scorer over the course of his career.
